Hossein Behzad was an Iranian painter and illustrator. He was a technical employee of the General Department of Archaeology and a professor of painting at the Tehran Fine Arts Academy for many years. This museum contains all of his paintings and art. His paintings are miniatures and his students painted his paintings and unfortunately, some of the paintings are shown twice, which is due to the disorganization of the works and the museum management, which needs to be addressed. In 1992, the Cultural Heritage Organization of Iran decided to create a permanent museum of Hossein Behzad's works. For this reason, it dedicated one of the palaces located in the Saadabad complex, called the Karbasi Palace, to this purpose, and then, through a contract with Parviz Behzad, Hossein Behzad's son, 289 of Behzad's works were transferred to this building. The Karbasi Palace building dates back to the Qajar era and was the Shah's workplace and resting place during the reign of Reza Shah, and after him, it was the summer residence of Reza Pahlavi under the title of "Crown Prince Palace". In 2012, the museum was recognized and honored by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in the “Strive for Survival” section of the Museum of Excellence. The Ostad Hossein Behzad Museum has 5 halls with a variety of works of pencil and ink drawings, color paintings with different themes from multiple periods of Hossein Behzad’s work. These halls are: Hall 1 (Works drawn in the style of Iranian painting schools): This hall is dedicated to displaying Behzad’s works that were painted in the style of the Safavid and late Timurid schools. Works such as Polo Playing, Shirin and Farhad Kouhkan, Woman Holding a Bayaz, and Majles Dars by Hakim Omar Khayyam Hall 2 (Works Inspired by the Poems of Iranian Poets): In these works, Behzad has created works inspired by the verses of poets such as Khayyam, Hafez, and Rumi. Hall 3 (Artwork from Popular Culture): Includes paintings such as: Karakbazan, Ramal, Aghdkanan, Saqa, Choupan Ni Nawaz, etc. Hall 4 (Drawings of the faces of great people in the form of paintings): Pictures of the faces of Hafez, Saadi, Khayyam, Rumi, Zakaria Razi, etc. Hall 5 (Drawings): In this section, drawings of different faces with different poses or drawings of some animals are displayed. Be sure to visit this museum, it is very beautiful, especially for art lovers.
